Our children always show lots of interest in the food we eat and they are of course encouraged in this. Our lovely cook Lynne regularly spends time with the children providing information about the food we eat or helping the children to prepare food of their own.

One of our children identified a coconut in one of our books and asked some questions about them. So Lynne sat down with the children and spoke to them about how a coconut looks and smells and they tasted the coconut and the water inside. This prompted some fantastic language with the children and encouraged them to make links between their own experiences as well as what they already know about fruit and vegetables.

Lynne showed the children desiccated coconut and coconut milk too and talked about where we buy these and how they are used as ingredients in some of the dishes we have at nursery.
